Kristi Spillman
I won a few poster contests
back in grade school and couldn't help making
special cards for family and friends over the
years. I always had a knack for art (just like
my Mom) so I enrolled in the Art Institute of
Pittsburgh where I received an Associates Degree
in Graphic Design.
After several years of waiting
tables, countless jobs, crazy craft projects and
traveling, I signed up for a beginning stained
glass class at a local stained glass shop with
my bud, Jeff. I had finally found my niche and
was HOOKED. I had to set up a stained glass workshop
in the laundry room of my house. Jeff and I barely
fit in there together without tools and equipment.
I kept going back to that local shop and buying
up books, glass and tools. Jeff had a real job
so glass became a hobby.
That shop finally decided
to try out my abilities as a glass artist and
I worked my way into a new career. A couple of
years of working on projects as an employee got
me thinking. I might be able to do this at home!
I had been taught by some of the best and was
always eager to help out the new students in the
shop.
I moved into a bigger studio
and several years later I'm creating gorgeous
stained glass windows for homes and churches along
with some fun stuff and scary experiments.
I teach stained glass classes
now and do commission work out of my new studio
in downtown Tucson. Come and take a class with
me and my friends. You'll see what you can do
on the pages of this site. No luck as an artist?
Bring me an idea and I'll turn it into a fabulous
window for you.
I'm Kristi Spillman and I
love stained glass.
